About Our Campsites

Imagine, For a moment, a crisp, but sunny Northeastern Minnesota summer day along the shore of the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. Most likely, there is a breeze off the lake that adds a freshness to the air that few other places on the planet can duplicate. Add the crashing sound of the waves as they end their several hundred mile journey breaking over the rugged shoreline. You're aware of the scent and the sound of the pines rustled by that light breeze. In the distance, Split Rock Lighthouse, and the bay it overlooks, are visible.

Along the over four miles of shoreline within the park borders there are but 25 campsites...and one of them is yours. Right there, next to the lake. Just wait until dark when the stars overpower the heavens with their brilliance!

Camping

Tent camping could be described as the ability or desire to exist as one with nature with but a flimsy fabric (waterproof) separating you from total commitment.

One can not experience the great outdoors more completely than from a tent. A rustic cabin can come close, but that slender protective membrane provided by a tent highlights the adventure, the romance, the essence of living, like no other shelter. What if we were to wrap up all of the above mentioned exposed nerve endings in a bit of...well...     "SPLENDOR"?

The Splendor

After drinking in the beauty of your camp's setting, you look back at your 12'x15' full standing room tent. At one end of the tent is the queen size bed with the 9" thick air mattress a full 2' off the floor. It begins to sink in that you'll be sleeping between real sheets, with full size pillows and a comforter to match. You then realize you've never seen head boards on beds in a tent before, but there they are with reading lights by every pillow. No sleeping on the ground for you! Fresh coffee can even be made, or cold beverages kept chilled right there in the tent. In one corner sits an incredibly easy to use, safe, high heat output tent heater to deal with the morning chill. There's more. Rocking chairs, a table with benches that seats four, several battery powered lanterns. Even wall to wall carpeting.

Trikes For Life Excursion's goal is for you to be able to arrive needing but one small piece of luggage for personal items (toothbrush and a good book). As you will see in our What's Provided section, we provide even more.

If anyone in your party is concerned about any personal physical limitations that might restrict them from participation in the camping experience, please give us a call. The access to the sites is excellent and the actual camp site is very user friendly relative to how the tent is outfitted. Indoor toilets and showers are very close by as well. Our desire is to make this work for everybody if at all possible.

The Food

Your campsite is within eight minutes of some of the Northshore's finest, and most unique eating establishments. No franchise restaurants in sight. Your tent will also be set up to enable you to serve light snacks with elegance. In other words, leave all your camp cooking gear at home. Let the local chefs cater to you for the gourmet dinners, and we'll provide you with what you'll need to prepare and serve light snacks.
